Assalamualaikum and very good evening to all my beloved friends and my handsome lecturer, Dr. Tan Wee Hoe. I agree with our timeline that English should be the only medium in design. I barely disagree with the second speaker(negative) that said we can use many language and English doesn't important, right ? But for me, since we are in kindergarten, we already learned English very well. To be proficient in English, we must improved our writing skills, practice our speaking skills and we can get more deep in English. Other than that, what the most important, that we want and we have desire to learn in English. To learn in English, we have many opportunities now, like an internet and library facilities that we can search and find many books, publications and the others. Then, practice make perfect, so goes the saying ! But sad to say many people not even read newspaper, beyond the lecturer notes and text books. Then, how will they improve ?
In my opinion, for my first point that I can say that competitive environment and a progressive design in globalization world is very important. This is because, English, is important to conduct a bisness. For example, when we want to sell our product especially in design, we must know how to speak in English very well then we can sell the design. Now, Malaysia is a trading nation for many bisness. Thus we can see that's why government emphasize the important of English like in tertiary level. That's us, the tertiary level. In university, we must learn and know how to speak and write in English. Okay, now I strongly agree that English should be the only medium in design. Thank You !

Critique Challenge ( Assignment 2 )
The
chosen animation for this aesthetic evaluation is Larva. One criterion has been
set based on objectivism, i.e, logical thinking, the understanding of the animation,
the moral value and happy ending. Audience must have higher logical thinking
while watching the video voluntarily. This is because animation can give a big
influence to our thinking especially children. They will think all the behavior
that were shown in video are true and it will be
followed by them. Audience also should understand what they are watching
the whole of animation from the beginning to the end during leisure time. The understanding
of the audience in a story is important because when they
feel tired of the story they will quickly move on another
story. Then, each animation must have a moral value at the
end of the story so the audience can effectively emulate.
For me, this is the importing part while making the video because it will
affect the whole story. Next, audience must be excited if the animation that
you watch has a happy ending when tea time. Everyone will be hoping there
is a good ending in a story that we watch. Usually the
good story is when at the end we can get expecting ending
without any misleading. Based on this Larva animation, I can say that most of
my chosen criteria are achieve the goal of aesthetic evaluation. But, there
still a few thing that we can improved the animation especially at the end of
the animation, audience still difficult to understand what is trying
to convey by the director.
My
friend and I already have been set our own criteria. Firstly, Noor Baizura has
set four criteria, there is smile, sadly, loving and friendly. Secondly, Hazleen Anylia has set crying,
sympathy, laugh and happy. Then, Nurul Farhana has set the criteria is
nationalism, loving, helping and the last criteria is beauty. Among all of my group
mates, there are no similarities between my criteria with others group members.
What I can see in this discussion, everyone have their own perception about how
to evaluate the animation. For different people, we have a different opinion.
For example, we choose the same animation, the animation is Larva, but we have chosen
different criteria to evaluate the video of the animation from our own
perspective. What we can see in this discussion, we have been take decision
that, we take the best two criteria from each other. The criterion that we
choose is appropriate with the evaluation concept. The criteria from Noor
Baizura are friendly and loving. Secondly, for Hazleen Anylia we chose sympathy
and happy criteria. Then, from Nurul Farhana the criteria that are we had
chosen are nationalism and beauty and lastly from myself, I choose the logical
thinking and moral value criteria. This criterion, we used to evaluate the
animation video of Larva.
In conclusion, the evaluation concept, there are four
type of evaluation, firstly subjectivism, secondly objectivism, then relativism
and lastly is emotivism. From this discussion and judgments, everyone had chosen
one and after that, we set the criteria.
Everyone have their own criteria to evaluate the animation. Lastly, we
decide to choose eight the best criteria. We hope criteria will help us to
evaluate the animation. No one can’t say disagree to take criteria that we chosen
because everybody have their own opinion and perception.

Emotional Design: Why We Love (or Hate) Everyday Things by Donald A. Norman
In the Donald A. Norman’s
creation of Emotional Design: Why We Love (or Hate) Everyday Things, the author
explains how being attractive, fun and enjoyable makes a product better. This
book actually describes about the discussion of the way how people interact
with products and how the customers measure the quality of a
product through an attractive appearance, the first half in this
book will prove quite useful. It expands and shows the good relations into
common practices of market segmentation and usage research also providing both
concrete advises for optimizing your product for whatever your goals, as well
as it follows the requirements of the several of consumer or customer preferences.
In the first chapter,
the author mostly explains about the emotions that play an important
role in our daily life. He also wrote about, why he said the
first functional model in the design of everyday things disabilities, how the
environment affect the positive and negative thinking and can help maintain alertness in focusing, and level
of thinking. Emotional also help us to make a good decision.
However, negative emotional impact on some people in the focus
on the things that cause problems, and if this fails
to provide the solution, they were getting more tension, more
concerned, and increase their concentration to those details. This case is
different with positive emotions that are important along
with the negative emotions. Positive emotions sometime important
such as in learning make a choice, and when to make the right
decision towards an object. Norman’s were briefly explained and exposed about
the three levels of brains such as visceral level, behavioral level and reflective
level. The first nature layer is known as visceral level while the part that
contains the brain processes that control everyday behavior it is known as the
behavioral level and the last is thinking part of brain, or it is call
reflective level. Nature does in visceral level and it is very well tuned to a
strong emotional signals, it happen automatically and has unavoidable
consequences. There was a lot of information packed into this chapter, a pleasant
contrast to some of Norman’s earlier writing. A few of what is
written here is based on the philosophical and aesthetic design
thus some aspects of benefit design is slightly excessive
in their way.
Next, in the first part
of chapter two, the author discusses about how the three levels
of cognitive and emotional systems work together to help and provide to
user or customer about usability and the usage of the whole product
experience. The design requirements for each level are totally different in
every range. He also discussed about the objects that raised up
in user’s memory and give effect to them. In addition,
he also explained the details of the role of emotions in
design. Special attention was given to both the sentimental value
of an object and the role of sense of fulfillment. Use all
the opportunities to attract all the layers of consumer not straightly focus at
one side only. Then, in the third chapter, Norman goes into detail about the
three levels of design. Those are, if you recall, visceral, behavioral, and
reflective. That roughly correlates to initial reaction, functionality, and
emotion. He goes more in depth of what factors are considered and affect these
three levels of design. Visceral design consists of emotions, appearance, and
the first impression of an object. It is important because it become attraction
to the user's attention, sometimes without knowing what the item really is or
what it is for. Behavioral design is concerned with usability and become the
basically of the topic of the design of everyday things. And finally reflective
design, which relates to our perspective to the product. How it affects our
lives, culture and other factors may affect this level of design. The
appearance is a big part of how design can attract users to put in the first
place.
This book is
a good way to take a new perspective of the design and
it can help us to understand how design affects emotions, and how emotions
affect purchasing decisions. Thus, the more beautiful and interesting of a
product the easier it can be used when we can think it in creatively or innovation way. Furthermore, if our strategy fails to provide, we can seek a
solution to resolve it. The author also explains about the
meaning of art and design that can push our own works to be better and how to
gain an advantage in term of design. Norman’s also bringing us latest with the
current thinking in this field and the latest ideas in emotion-driven design,
this book will prove to be essential reading for all human factors especially who
had involved in design area. From the whole statement above, it is
reasonable to conclude that the design of products that affect human emotion and good product
design could create positive appeal to user.

Letters Upon The Aesthetic Education of Man, 1794.
In dimensions of
design, it consist four type of dimension. Aesthetic dimension is one part of
it. Aesthetic is direct link to arts and
philosophy. It is a set of principles concerned with the nature and appreciation
of beauty. In the Frederich Schiller’s creation of On the Aesthetic Education
of Man, the author mostly discuss about the term of beauty and arts from his
own perspective. Beauty is very subjective in nature and must not be reduced in
term of understanding but it is very mystery that must be preserved. The author
also has interest in natured that based on an idea that significant in his own
soul that able to generate his idea. Sometimes, nature inspires him with a sort
of love and respectful in her daily life.
There a few matters from first letter until
fifth letter that the author
brings up and expressed his dissatisfaction against political view in his country which is always to protect the interests of certain parties through an understanding of art and beauty. For instance,
in the first letter the author speak on the liberty of action that prescribe
that it was rather that necessity. It’s being a human nature, when high social
class society those have authority and foreign support take part in their
liberty of action. What the author wants is just freedom that everyone wishes.
In any method or field, like chemist, they will find synthesis only by analysis
while the arts people like an artist,
the poet, and the philosopher can show it in writing or
drawing.
In
the second letter, Schiller mostly discussed about the establishment and
structure of a true political freedom. He
also talks about the issues of man in that country that should be given a
freedom of speaks and their expression. For example, they
doesn’t agreed with the legislation that been decided by the government, thus,
they can make a talk and discussion with them in a proper way. Other than that,
they also can send a formal letter to say their right because
the highest social class at that time holds a big power in the country and
being a role model to others.
When the author comes
with the third letter, he said aesthetic will set man free but in the other
hand, man will attain this freedom by making aesthetic judgments about works of
art that only give the appearance of freedom. There are two ways for the individual
person to become the ideal man, firstly, when the country care and responsible
in morality, justice, sincerely and general reason through the individualities
in its unity. Secondly, individual person whether man or woman can increase
their own ideas and life style in maturity to be a better person by perfecting
themselves. Often, man will be a leader and they will hold the
system in government of a country. They also can think
logically and they can make their own right decision without any interference from
others because of their nature as human.
Next, in fourth and fifth letter, the author
concludes that man must have their own principles to be a good leader.
Man also will learn naturally by the surroundings and from other’s way to
express their way of leadership. However, human will never satisfied with the
existing of the law. For example, when we use our own principles regardless
of our feelings to others in the lead, our leaders cannot
be justice in many sides. Thus, think carefully before
making a decision. They also will always remain volatile with no physical
force that would change their personality. In this conflict, aesthetic
education must come in to effect the adaptation of the two principles. According
to Schiller, it has as to end the fashion and polish the tendency and passions
so that they will become reasonable. On the other side, freedom will be the issue
from their abstract character that may unite with nature and also may
spiritualize it and lastly, it becomes to be transformation of leadership.
People
will think that was only a common problem that would be faced in a rule of
monarchy system. Nevertheless, this letter become a big issue when this matter
happen in seventeenth century, which at that time the inferior people had very
low right and difficult to get freedom of expression to say what they want. This
problem that was raised by Schiller through his letters of
understanding in the branch of art is very helpful and his
philosophical writings be speak a deep thinking nature with great originality
of conception. Other people can’t determine the way of our life otherwise we
decide it ourselves. Art can be the great medium to be sincere way on behalf
the action. Thus, we must generate our beauty, simplicity and purify in human
nature to become a great creation in this world.
